Choosing the perfect curtains is often the best finishing touch when decorating a room. Sometimes just changing the style of curtains is all that is needed. When deciding on what type of curtains to add, be sure to consider the following; Jardinieres, Cafe Curtains, Net Curtains, and Voile Swags. Each of these adds a different feel to the room and can provide many desired effects.
Jardinieres- Enabling some privacy, while still allowing light to enter the room, is the effect provided by these types of curtains. These have a distinct shape to them that creates a more elegant appearance than other types of thin curtains. There is a gentle arch in the middle, making the sides hand down a bit longer than the rest of the curtain, but this window covering only takes up part of the window. Usually, four different widths are available for this type of curtain, enabling them to fit most types of windows.
Cafe Curtains- There isn’t a whole lot of privacy had with these curtains, but these aren’t generally chosen for that purpose anyway. This type of curtain is used more to add a bit of flair to a plain window. It dresses it up just enough, while not hindering the view of the outside. These curtains fill the width of the window, but aren’t very long. Placing two of these side by side will make a fuller display and some people prefer to fill the window more by hanging one curtain above the other.
Net/Voile Curtains- Using these to diffuse the light entering a room is most common, but they can also be placed over existing curtains to add contrast. These come with a variety of patterns, both simple and intricate, that look great when placed over a solid colored curtain. Sizes range from 36 inches to 90 inches and are excellent for creating a more calming atmosphere in a room. The sheer quality of these curtains can easily add a bit of elegance to a bland room.
Voile Swags- This style of curtain is more for dressing up a window, instead of trying to achieve privacy. There isn’t really a beginning or an end to this type of curtain. One part of the curtain is gathered for the curtain rod to go through and the rest forms a gentle curve as the curtain is fed onto the curtain rod. One panel will usually cover up to 30 inches of window width and the longest part of the curve will hang down about 26 inches.
While the above curtains mentioned can actually all be lumped together as net curtains, each provides a distinct style to a window display. They also come in a variety of hues and designs, perfect for any room in the house.

For people who are a fan of house make-overs on the television, you will not doubt have noticed how the window dressing is a vital part of the room decor. You will have also noticed how curtains and drapes are making a comeback. The recent trend to switch to blinds appears to be ending, mainly due to maintenance issues – they are difficult to keep clean, and cut out a lot of natural daylight. They are ideal in offices and public buildings where cleaning is contracted out, but do they really suit cottages?
People are also realising that net curtains afford most privacy, they are easy to see out, and difficult for people to see in. With building regulations ensuring our windows are a lot smaller (energy saving) then the amount of natural light is reduced. Nets offer the most privacy and natural light.
Buying nets on the internet, is an easy way to choose from the widest variety, and is very good value for money. When choosing a supplier, make sure you choose one that uses only the trusted mills in Nottingham, and has a good relationship with them. By dealing direct, he can pass savings on to you.
He should have a wide choice of jardinieres, voile swags, cafe curtains and tie blinds etc. A wide variety of designs and of course, all the necessary accessories you might require.
You should be advised on how to measure your windows correctly, how much you will need for “frilling” and what additional accessories you will need. Ordering should be straightforward, and delivery prompt
Net curtains are very easy to maintain, they can be washed, dried and up again in a very short time. They offer elegance to any room and total privacy. There are many modern designs and ideas how to drape them, and can make your room very up-to-date yet cosy.

Our windows connect us to the outside world. The first thing we do when we get up in the morning is draw back the curtains to see what is in store for us today. In the evening, after a busy day, we like to draw them together to shut out the outside world.
Nothing makes us more happy then to see the sun beaming through our windows, and nothing annoys us more then when we see people trying to peer through them. It feels like an invasion to our privacy.
The answer is net curtains – easy for us to see out through, and impossible for people to see in through. The Nottingham Mills are well known for their textiles, and it is generally understood that they make the finest netting. Although they have been operating for years, the reason they keep their popularity is because they listen to their clients. They like to keep up to date with modern needs, as well as pleasing people with classic designs.
Nets are made of tough polyester, and usually come in white or cream. The smaller the mesh on the net, the more shade it gives, helping to protect furnishings from strong sunlight. The larger the mesh, the less shade, and more sunlight.
Nottingham Mills are always updating their designs and patterns, and aim to please everyone. Many still prefer their windows to be dressed in lace, while others prefer the plain look. Some like fancy curtain sets, others may only want half of their windows covered with nets.
When buying net curtains, there is always a saving if you purchase through the internet. Choose a company that has a good relationship with the Nottingham Mills, you will know that you will be getting quality. Ensure that the company carries a large stock, has many patterns to choose from and different designs of curtaining e.g. cafe curtains, voile swags, jardinieres etc.
They should also be able to provide you will all the accessories you need. They should have a good advisory service, and give you all the help you need with measuring and gathering. The curtains should arrive ready to hang, with delivery being their priority.
Beautiful window dressing will make the view even more beautiful.
